A Moo-ving Experience
A special and rather unusual exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery has been brought to life through the hire of a 2.5 metre diameter Maxi Carousel revolve from British Turntable Co. Ltd.
The revolve was used to animate ‘DIY Daisy’, an audience-participatory exhibition and competition held across the whole of Manchester for the most attractive themed cow. Movement was needed in the Art Gallery to create an eye-catching focal point, attract visitors to the unusual exhibit and invite them to interact with it by entering the competition to decorate a cow.
Assistant Curator, Marie Knudsen, says, “We were very happy with the way the movement worked for us. It created a stylish environment, animating the space and bringing the exhibition to life. As a result, the competition was highly successful, attracting a phenomenal response with over 1300 entries. We would definitely consider using movement again, particularly as British Turntable was so easy to work with.”
Creating a focal point is a key requirement in a heritage or gallery environment, and movement is the ideal vehicle to achieve this. British Turntable revolves provide the perfect starting point. Ranging in size from small battery-powered units only 12 centimetres in diameter to revolving stages over 10 metres in diameter, the portfolio now offers more than 100 standard movement options, many of which are available for short-term hire for temporary exhibitions.
The company also designs and builds people movers, which are ideal for creating interactive multi-media presentations and controlling visitor movement within the heritage centre.
