British Turntable Triumph at Wimbledon
A display of vintage tennis costumes is making a great impression on visitors to the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum - and startling the museum's early morning cleaners - thanks to B200 display turntables supplied by British Turntable Co.
The turntables are being used to add life to the display, the first by revolving a cream facecloth dress from around 1905, and the other a c. 1885 two-piece summer dress decorated with brown braid. "Because these are such interesting and detailed dresses we decided that it would be nice for visitors to have an all-round view," says Matthew Glaze, Museum Assistant at Wimbledon. "A turntable seemed the ideal solution. Not only do the revolves show the costumes in all their glory, they also bring the display to life. They still make the cleaners jump early in the morning!"
Located in Centre Court and open throughout the year, the museum tells the exciting story of lawn tennis, explaining many of the quintessentially English traditions associated with the game. The exhibits encapsulate the prestige, action, glamour and glory associated with The Championships, and visitors can also take a guided tour of the grounds, including access to restricted areas normally closed to the general public.
The B200 turntables being used by the museum to display their most attractive costumes were chosen from British Turntable's standard range of display movement products, which now numbers more than 100. Because of their reliability, smooth operation and ability to create cost-effective eye-catching displays, they are used all over the world in the heritage and leisure sector, retail environments and for exhibitions.
The range has been recently extended with new battery-powered revolves, ideal for displaying small, individual pieces where it is difficult to supply mains power, and includes everything from simple rotary and rocker units and to larger mains-operated units that can be used on their own or with others to create more complex integrated combinations.
