DriveAway Turntable Chosen for National Garden Shows

The revolutionary DriveAway turntable from Bolton company, British Turntable Co, turned heads when it made a special appearance at the BBC Gardeners World show at the NEC in June and will make a second appearance at the Royal Horticultural Society show at Tatton Park in July, where visitors will have the opportunity to buy the DriveAway at a substantially reduced price.

RHS Gold Medal Winner and Best in Show Landscape Designer, David Fountain, came up with an innovative idea of improving the appearance of front gardens that have been converted into hard-standing parking areas for cars. By installing the DriveAway with a special covering, such as decking, and planting shrubs and flowers to two or three sides, cars can be parked off-street when needed, while the frontage will look as attractive and eye-catching as the neighbours' gardens when the hard-standing area is not being used. "It's a particular problem for urban dwellers," says David Fountain. "Using the DriveAway turntable in this way, the garden can still look beautiful when the parking area's clear, instead of looking like a concrete jungle. I've been looking for a solution to this problem for years, and was delighted when I found that British Turntable could supply exactly what I was looking for. It's a brilliant product and should do very well." The DriveAway was installed on 'Sunflower Street', in a Silver Award-winning 'garden' sponsored by car manufacturers, Skoda. David Fountain created a stunning garden design using granite-set edgings and cobble surround to the turntable, with a backdrop of modern planting to project a contemporary look to the 'house'. To complete the effect, the DriveAway was covered with decking to show its full potential in this type of installation.

John Entwistle, Managing Director of British Turntable, is delighted to be associated with such a prestigious project. "It shows a new angle on the DriveAway," he says. "We originally developed the product as a low-priced, off-the-shelf item for people living on main roads, as it solves the problem of reversing out into heavy traffic, which can be highly dangerous. Instead, the vehicle can simply be turned round on the turntable in the drive itself." The DriveAway is designed for easy self-installation, special ramps being supplied to allow the vehicle to be driven onto the low profile unit. It can also be flush-fitted into the driveway to complement block paving and other popular driveway surfaces. Smooth in operation, it's built to withstand inclement weather conditions and is very easy to maintain. The new product is a result of British Turntable's 40 years' experience of solving vehicle handling problems by designing, manufacturing and installing revolves in inner-city locations to ease car parking problems and facilitate heavy goods vehicle deliveries.
