Ferrari Demonstrate New Angle on Automotive Display

A new angle on automotive display was demonstrated by Ferrari at the recent Motor Show in Birmingham when a 5m diameter revolving stage from British Turntable was used on a tilt to show off the high performance Enzo, the fastest ever road vehicle to wear the Ferrari badge.

The concept was initiated by Tim Maunder, Head of Event Operations at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) to meet the brief from stand builders, Karavelle, to make Ferrari's new flagship car, with its distinctive F1 styling, 'as visible as possible.'

The Ferrari stand is always one of the most popular stands at a motor show. As this was the first time the Enzo had been seen in the UK, Tim Maunder needed to design a really special stand that would allow those at the back of a four- to five-people deep audience to see the car from all angles. By raising the stand and tilting the turntable, this was achieved, and both Karavelle and Ferrari were delighted with the result.

Turntables, of course, are not an unusual sight at motor shows and in car showrooms, as they enable all-round visibility of the vehicle on display as well as adding interest and enhancing its image. "But Tim Maunder has demonstrated just how versatile they can be," comments John Entwistle, Managing Director of British Turntable. "We've seen them used in a vertical position to revolve cars, signs and logos, but mounting the turntable at an angle in this way is a highly unusual and innovative way of creating an attractive, eye-catching display that really stands out from the rest."

British Turntable is highly experienced in producing turntables for automotive display, indeed the company was founded, in 1959, on a single demand for a showroom display unit. Since then British Turntable has gone on to design and manufacture turntables for applications as diverse as retail display and mechanical handling, non-destructive testing and people-moving in the heritage sector, revolving restaurants and Turntable Divisible Auditoriums. Many units are available on hire, making them ideal for the exhibitions, TV, film and video industries. The company is committed to quality and is accredited to the world-recognised quality standard, ISO 9001.
