Funny Girls Do it in the Round
Drama and panache combine to create an exciting and lavish stage show at leisure company, In the Pink's, Funny Girls Fun Pub, thanks to an individually adapted British Turntable revolving stage and specially fitted trapdoor.
The 4.25m diameter revolve was commissioned when In The Pink decided to move Funny Girls to larger and improved refurbished premises in the heart of Blackpool, the North West's biggest and brightest centre of entertainment.
The company had originally called upon British Turntable to design a revolving stage for their old premises, and this had proved to be such a successful investment for the venue that In The Pink felt that the new premises deserved something equally as impressive to enhance and add style to regular performances. As previously, the main design conditions were for stage stability, reliability and smooth operation, together with rotation in both directions and the easy accommodation of performers during their song and dance routines. Extra dramatic effect has been achieved by incorporating a trapdoor in the centre of the stage to allow performers to enter the arena from below the stage surface. A steel access ladder is fitted as part of the rotating chassis structure to facilitate this.
The Funny Girls revolving stage has been further adapted from British Turntable's standard design with the addition of a variable speed control up to a maximum of 8rpm, and the revolve fulfils the durability and stability criteria demanded by the dancers during their performance through its steel supporting structure, which is built up to the top of the stage. The stage therefore personifies the perfect mechanism to carry performers and scenery to a maximum weight capacity of 2000 kg.
In the Pink are 'in the pink' over their new facility, which has received rave reviews from all who have visited the venue since the new premises were opened. British Turntable is regularly called upon by the leisure industry to design-in added value at entertainment venues, heritage centres and museums. The Millennium Dome's only 'ride' was a 28m diameter people mover built and installed by British Turntable, and the Theatr Botanica in the National Garden of Wales is experiencing great success with its 8m diameter unit specially designed to interface with a multi-media presentation on the diversity of plant life across the planet. The company's revolving stages, which are also available for short time hire, are heavily in demand for exhibitions, product launches and 'reveals'. British Turntable has recently become one of only a small number of organisations to be registered to the updated BS EN ISO 9001: 2000 standard.
