High Visibility For Texaco
The Texaco filling station at Manchester's Trafford Centre is enjoying a high profile thanks to a revolving sign designed by Street Design of Manchester and installed by the Pearce Group using a revolving sign mechanism from British Turntable Co. A revolving sign was chosen for its visibility from the nearby M60 motorway, the filling station being otherwise obscured by other buildings and direction signs to the Centre. After looking at various options, an image of a sign in the United States was found that matched Texaco's requirements for the Trafford site. This tall fixed circular sign was then adapted to revolve to make it even more conspicuous.
A ST1100 mechanism from the standard British Turntable sign range was chosen to create the revolve as it was designed for external use and weatherproof. The standard 150mm rotating element was extended to 300mm to accommodate the interface plate, the only component that was custom-built to meet the customer's specification. With a rotating speed of 4rpm the mechanism is also fitted with slip rings to allow internal illumination of the sign. Chris Cave of Texaco says, "The sign has been operational for several months without problems. It is very eye-catching and does its job well in making the filling station more visible to passers-by." The ST110 is one of a range of full range of mechanisms developed and manufactured by British Turntable for the signage industry. The range includes units for internal use ideal for installation inside shopping centres, retail outlets, hotels, exhibition halls and other venues. External mechanisms can be seen revolving signs on top of multi-storey and other large buildings, including Toyota's flagship headquarters building in Gaza, Egypt.
British Turntable revolving sign mechanisms are precision-engineered to ensure reliable and durable performance under rigorous operating conditions. They are therefore extremely versatile and cost-effective
