Revolve Increases Internet Sales

An internet car sales company is enjoying increased sales, thanks to an Olympian 4.5 turntable from British Turntable Co. and an innovative concept from web designers, Pixel Image Ltd.

The concept was to generate a virtual car showroom that was as close to reality as possible, displaying each car attractively while allowing potential buyers easy access to look around it. Making the car rotate seemed the obvious answer, however the normal method of creating moving images on the web - moving the camera round the image to photograph it every 10 degrees - proved to be impractical as it took too long, cost too much and was not controllable enough. With a requirement to produce an initial run of 130 cars as quickly as possible, Pixel Image needed to come up with a way of lighting, shooting, digitally capturing and processing a lot of images very quickly.

Stephen Smith of Pixel Image explains, "Rotating the car rather than moving the camera seemed to be the answer. We built a scale model of a showroom, rotated a toy Ferrari on a small disk and shot it on digital video. It looked great, and proved that the concept could work. A quick search on the internet for 'turntables' found us British Turntable Company, and we couldn't believe it: there was a multitude of sizes to choose from. After looking at various options we found the Olympian 4.5 to be just what we needed, as it provided us with a stable platform with the capacity to cope with a wide range of vehicles we needed to shoot. And it proved to be totally reliable in operationi, quiet and smooth."

The result is an extensive, interactive on-line car showroom that mirrors a real-life showroom, where cars are displayed in an eye-catching, attractive way while allowing buyers to examine every aspect of the car from all angles.

"The Olympian has been so successful, that we've turned to British Turntable for another of their products, this time a Mini Carousel," says Stephen Smith. "By taking photographs of fashion garments from our clients' catalogue and rotating them on a turntable, we've added another dimension to display on the web. This has been a great hit with our client and their clients! Both sites have gone on to win awards, none of which would have been possible without the turntables and the help British Turntable Co has given us in bringing each project to fruition."
