Tilting Platform Proves a Winner

Action Stations, a new experience for visitors to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, has been created to bring the challenges and excitement of today's Royal Navy to the public at large.

Central to its success is a representation of the Operations Room of a Type 23 destroyer. Created by Silver Knight, the 10 tonne steel compartment houses interactive consoles to simulate the various operations of a warship. And to make the experience even more realistic and exciting, the 'ship' rocks as if ploughing through the seas, thanks to an oscillating platform Silver Knight asked us to design and build.

Barbara Barnes, General Manager of Action Stations, is over the moon with the effect. "With its moving base, flashing lights and tannoy noises, visitors certainly experience what it's like to be at sea - and it really adss to the fun," she says.

And Tim Rusby of Silver Knight has showered us with praises saying, "Moving such a heavy room reliably and safely was a key priority. From the moment David Houghton took the enquiry he left us in no doubt that British Turntable could do exactly what we wanted. They did everything we asked of them on time and on budget - an increasingly rare service these days."
